I'm curious where these dimensions came from. There are some on this page that I have not seen anywhere else, even on GM pages. Good luck to the Wissota racers.

There was some issues with the aftermarket Chevelle frames, the mounting points in particular. I don't see this being teched or even a big deal. GRTs seem to be the biggest issue so far.

IMCA was checking these dimensions at the Super Nationals from what I've read. Several guys had to make changes to be able to pass tech. Now it's migrated to WISSOTA, too. Quite a few guys are pee'd that their new cars aren't legal. GRT offered to fix the cars until December IIRC… or you can do it yourself with a kit from them.

The reason I asked is those dimensions are not on imca's rules sheet. The outside frame rail number doesn't exist for the 68-72 frame measurements. It does for the earlier ones. Also, there are not dimensions for the lower pick up points.
GRT is not alone in this. There is another chassis builder doing the same thing. GRT is the only one to publicly say they would fix it.

I see now. Much more open than IMCA's.

What's difference in IMCA's measurements?

I enjoy reading these kind of threads. My rule book has no specific frame rules besides the safety related ones. This allows me to implement any of these outlawed ideas that I deem worthy of a try. I now have raised rail and have copied the BeakBuilt adjustable lower front control arm mounts. I have studied what caused the LasVegas brewhaha and am now looking into what caused USMTS to revise rule 8.8. I can't say any of this stuff is a real big advantage, but if the sanctioning bodies say you can't do it, there must be a reason. I like to do this kind of stuff. If I had any brains I would wack off the stock stub and go tubular. You'all keep pushing those gray areas so I got something to think about. L.O.L. =#01H

www.imca.com/rules/modified/That is our Mod rules. The key phase is "unaltered OEM" that catches people. The won't allow us to modify the top of the left frame rail to clear the LF upper A-frame either. Some chassis builders were notching it to gain more clearance so the car can roll a little more and keep the LF tire on the ground.

There is so much that is outlawed in an effort to make things 'even'… well life isn't even or fair. I can't understand all the inexpensive stuff that's illegal.
Back in the day we ran sportsman cars with a real thick rule book… but it wasn't stupid. OK the open rear end rule was kinda dumb but it kept big motors to a minimum. Our only real restrictions were cast iron exhaust and iron heads (aluminum were pretty rare). The high dollar engines were 3K… built my 351-C's for under $1800.00… this was the early 80's. A lot of big blocks were under the hoods… cheap horsepower.
Plenty of guys moved their bodies back on the frame… my Torino had '61 Galaxie rails with a '65 Galaxie front stub… better and cheap to do. I moved the engine back 11" from stock… the Chevy rule said #1 even with the spark plug but the monte Carlo's were 2" back… so was my Ford. The inspectors really didn't know what they were looking at so they OK'd it.

I think the ( unaltered OEM ) rule kills innovation but you need to keep a level playing field. Here's the basic rules I run under. Frame= Any chassis, minimum wheelbase 103". Engine= no maximum cubic inch limit - any head - any piston, cylinder head, cam combo allowed - no alcohol - no dry sump - no fuel injection. Transmission= any tranny, clutch combo - must have 2 forward, 1 reverse gear. Rearend = no electronic traction control- quickchange allowed. Brakes= required on 3 wheels- no R.F. ok. We have all the basic safety rules like I.M.C.A e.c.t. and have minumun weight rule. I know these rules would never work in any Mod class, and dang sure don't do anything to keep costs down, but they work for me. I do get these perks tho = no car registration cost, 2 free pit passes , garunteed tow money and a lot of FUN. Sorry this doesn't really apply to this thread , just wanted to let others know you can still race and have fun without all the rules. =#01H

So basically you're running a SLM. The open rules like that are long gone down here. I like having rules in place but they need to be checked regularly. We have one chassis builder down here that has every one of his car DQed at some point because he chooses to push the very limit of the rules. Several of our frame rules came along afte the introduction of the aftermarket clip kits. Things are easy to move around on them. . I have two in my shop right now, ready to be assembled

The Illinois vintage deal just closed up shop when the founder changed direction and won't be running any races anymore. I hope someone takes up the slack...
